Travel Blog 2009 Nova Scotia Friday morning

It is cold this morning about 50 degrees, and I am working on my computer in the campground after breakfast. The view is great, sunny and you can se fall is on its way..

It’s going to warm up to about 70 with sunny skies. Today is a filming day in Shellburne Nova Scotia, A historical Loyalist settled town.

We did a dry run on Tuesday evening to see what was around, and there are plenty of options on museums and galleries for filming along with a second interview of Ayla Besemer from 3@sea. If it’s anything like when we filmed in Lunenburg we are in for another treat.

Yesterday we had a good time running around Lockport; yes we are in Lockport and not Rockland… where did I get Rockland, who knows! We let everyone know we were staying at the Lockport cottages and campground and that we knew Jamie. Well everyone knows Jamie and always had a good word to say about the man and that he always has a smile for you. Lockport is a small fishing town with the biggest fishing processing plant in Canada. It is Very picturesque with a walled in harbor and lots of boats and trawlers in the harbor. The town is kind of crazy the streets are haphazard houses are every color under the sun and all clapboard and cedar shake cape cod type house or salt boxes as they are called.

We found a few of the 5 beaches and WOW they are big and beautiful (great for clamming and shell fishing) you can tell when a big storm comes in how high the dunes are piled to protect the town. We followed a road down to the end of the fjord to the ocean and it was amazing wild and windswept, lots of rock outcroppings and scraggily trees and low ground cover. The Bayberry smelled great fresh and sweet. We hiked down to the edge of the cliff by the water and took pictures and just sat in awe at the site. The local people tell us that the water is almost always too cold for swimming.

After our excursion we headed back to camp for a snack and a nap (Tom napped a bit and I started cooking). I made zucchini bread and muffins and a summer stew from all the vegetables we picked from the garden before we left Royal Oak. What a great time it was to just cook and chop and mix and listen to music with nothing pressing I have to do.. ahh that’s life and that’s camping.

Later that evening we headed over to shellburne to meet the boat 3@sea. We ate the wonderful dinner that was prepared back at the campground. We also made plans for getting together for today.

Well were heading over there.. more to come!
